Common Questions
Can you motorise my existing blinds?
Often, yes, if the blind's hardware, size and condition suit a motor. We check that at your free in-home measure. A battery retrofit needs no new wiring and is priced per blind at the measure, because the motor and the blind both move the number. Hard-wired adds an electrician's fee for a power point at each blind; we coordinate the sparky and you pay them directly. If you're buying new blinds anyway, the motor is priced into each blind on the same written quote. Nothing is ordered until you've approved your written quote.
Are motorised blinds warmer or more energy efficient?
No. A blind's thermal performance comes from the fabric and how tightly it's fitted, not from whether you open it by hand or by remote. Motorisation is about convenience: reach, routine, accessibility and smart-home control. Anyone selling you a motor as an energy saver is selling marketing, not physics.
Are motorised blinds worth it?
On the right windows, yes: voids, stairwells, anything you'd need a ladder for, wide banks of blinds, and homes that'll genuinely use schedules. They also help anyone who finds chains and cords hard to manage. For a bedroom window you can reach comfortably, manual works fine and saves you the premium. We don't upsell motors.
What's the best blind for a high void or stairwell?
A motorised blockout roller or a motorised honeycomb blind. The motor solves the reach problem and the fabric does the rest: pick blockout for full darkness, or honeycomb if insulation matters more. On double-storey new builds, void motorisation is built into most fit-outs we quote.
Why do some motorised blinds die right after the warranty runs out?
Because the motor was the cheapest part of the job. Cheap unbranded import motors with no real lifecycle testing often give out in the first three to five years, and by then their warranty has usually run out. A quality motor costs a little more up front, but it's been properly lifecycle tested and carries a multi-year manufacturer warranty. We only fit motors we'd put in our own homes. Every blind motor we install carries our 3-year warranty on the motor and components, every blind we make carries our 5-year warranty on manufacturing defects and workmanship, and if anything plays up you ring us, not the motor maker.
Do motorised blinds need an electrician?
Battery motors usually don't. Wired motors need a licensed electrician to install a power point at each blind. The cleanest time to do that is lock-up stage on a new build; retrofitting the wiring later is more invasive.
